Two fundraisers are planned for Sunday to help a St. Charles family of six left without a father and husband following a fatal car accident.
The first will be held at 1 p.m. in the Wahnapitae Community Centre with the second to start at 3 p.m. at the Cardinal Roadhouse (former St. Charles Tavern).
The Wahnapitae fundraiser, which is actually the Wahnapitae Recreation Centre’s annual children’s Christmas party, will feature Christmas music, a visit from Santa, coffee and dessert.
The St. Charles fundraiser, meanwhile, will showcase live entertainment provided by Craig Jefferson and Mark Lawrence who play for local groups The Supplements, The Basics, Blonde Betty and Asphalt Junkies.
The fundraisers will benefit the family of Jeffrey Hunt, 38, who was killed in a motor vehicle accident Nov. 20 north of St. Charles. He is survived by five young children and his wife, Laura Runge, an American citizen. The family had just moved to St. Charles this summer after living in the United States.
Merv Julian, who is helping to organize the Wahnapitae event, said the annual children’s Christmas party usually collects non-perishable food items for the food bank, but it was decided to help out the Hunt family this year.
“We are hoping to raise a couple of hundred dollars,” he said. “It’s chipping in to what the other drives are doing.”
Cash donations to help the Hunt family can also be made at any TD Canada Trust location. A trust fund has been set up through Branch 3716, account No. 6359641.
